Black people hear it all the time from whites, “if you would just stop playing the race card…” However, this continuously seems to be the card we are dealt in this country and around the world.

The latest instance of racism, internal hatred and disgust for the black community came from two QVC host and is aimed at a black model’s natural hair. That’s right, the popular 24/7, live, television sales program that has been around for decades.

The segment features an expensive Dooney & Bourke Sutton Sydney Satchel ($268). The two white women host, one of which is Sandra Bennett, are discussing the features, uses and design of the elegant purse as a natural hair black woman is modeling for the television cameras.

At first, the television cameras are on the QVC host, but just as they start to make these comments, the camera changes to the black, natural hair model holding the Dooney & Bourke Satchel.

Transcript

QVC Host: You might look back and think, why did I wear my hair like that? But you like your bag still.

QVC Host 2: That’s right.

Laughter

QVC Host 2: You won’t look at your hair in the picture. You’ll look at your handbag.

QVC Host: Exactly!

QVC Host: Exactly!

INSTANT OUTRAGE!

Video clips of the QVC segment and comments went viral throughout the internet very quickly. Black women and men chimed in voicing their outrage and discuss over the matter. Calls for boycotting the QVC organization and not sharing the coveted $1 trillion dollar annual spending power in the black community with them were made.

Model’s natural hair is flat ironed in replacement video.

Apparently, the calls of outrage and boycotts were heard loud and clear by the QVC organization because one of the host, Sandra Bennett, made some tweets apologizing for the offensive wording and claiming she didn’t know the cameras were on the young, black, natural hair model at the time.

Since the outrage, QVC has taken down the video from their website and replaced it with another one. This time they are using the same model involved in the first controversy, but her hair has been flat ironed and is now straight as can be.

If there was no issue with her hair, first why the comments, then second why the change in hair style?

Here is the original video and comment.

I think instead of apologizing they should be removed from their position and I don’t think QVC should have made the model change her hair style why did she have to change it to look like white women I think QVC should be boycotted until they’re terminated

I agree. They ARE lying, to say they weren’t aware of the model being shown at the time. To believe they weren’t talking about her hair is blind ignorance.

    Lol typical.
She didn’t know what the model looked like? Is that what she’s tryna say? The model that’s in the same studio with them?
    Cmon. BULLSHIT.

Why did QVC not fire these women or at least suspend them without pay? To add insult to injury they have the models hair straightened afterwards. Ignorant people want to say why do Black people always talk about racism we do talk about it because it is prevalent in America, when is this going to end. Let’s call QVC and complain and also call Dooney & Bourke and voice our opinion . Let’s start talking and start doing

That was so inappropriate & unprofessional. Yes. They both should be removed. You can see the look on the model’s face like WTF?! That must have been so mortifying for her for no reason. Except for pure ignorance. I’m appalled & disgusted.

Straightening the model’s hair gives the impression that her natural hair is not accepted.
