Tamara James had a very successful career playing for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA, now she has switched her focus to activism and politics. That switch seems to be going amazingly well too as she just secured the position of mayor in her hometown.
At just 32 years old Tamara has been named the mayor of Dania Beach, Fla..
The Miami Herald said that it was Broward County’s “oldest community”.
After he awesome win she issued a statement to the SunSentinel where she said
“I plan on being a voice for our residents, promoting smart economic growth and unifying us as a city… I’m looking forward to winning championships for the oldest city in Broward County.
”
Former Miami Hurricanes coach Katie Meier was elated to hear the news and said:
“She’s our leading scorer and she’s a mayor. This is what we’re trying to do at Miami,”
“It’s an inspirational message on a day when some of us needed some.”
I wish her good luck, she seems to be loved in the community.
