Regardless of what anyone thought of Winnie and her frightful public antics, or what they thought of how her ex-husband, the late Nelson Rohilalah Mandela, sold out South Africa in the end for “white assimilation” -something Winnie was said to be very much against at one time- the truth is, Winnie M. Mandela just happened to be right about that ‘non-assimilation’ factor whether we care to acknowledge it or not.
We should have learned that much, if nothing else, by now.
Winnie Mandela was accused of a lot of things that went unproven or at least unspoken, but nothing that she could have ever done in her unbearable lifetime will ever surpass that which prefaced and led to her many self-induced sins.
White supremacy has murdered far more people than Hitler thought about, and definitely millions upon millions more than Winnie Mandela could have gotten her hands on in her entire lifetime. They have nothing to say about her that will cleanse their own souls, especially not in the wake of the continuous racism of being Black in America and everywhere else in the world.
Was it right for her to do wrong in order to vindicate perceived or real injustice? Not ‘necessarily’ right, yet how wrong was the wrong that led down to it?
‘We’ did not start this fire…that much is certain.
I don’t excuse or justify it or her, I tell the truth: Period. Those are the facts, regardless of what we need to think about it all. There is no REAL excuse for ANY of it, so their white unsympathetic prelude to her over-arching ‘bad attitude’ is even worse than what they say she was.

(Dr.) Maya Angelou was born on April 4th, 1928.
Today would be her 90th birthday, but she passed on to the ancestors nearly four years ago and now her birthday is eternally engraved into world history. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, on Dr. Angelou’s 40th birthday. He had just turned 39 on January 15, 1968.
Dr. King’s name is also eternally engraved into world history-shortly after what would have been his 89th birthday.
