East Coast cities have been on high alert since Sunday evening because of on-the-run criminal Steve Stevens, known as the Facebook Killer due to him livestreaming the murder of an elderly man. After the incident, he managed to elude Cleveland Police, threatening to target more people the longer that he was on the loose. It is now reported that Stevens was found dead in Pennsylvania due to a self-inflicted gun wound. His body was found in a Ford Fusion after a police chase that led him into the city of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Reportedly, he stopped at a local McDonalds and was seen by a civilian. Stephens went through the drive-thru to order a 20-piece McNugget and a large fry. However the McDonalds workers, recognizing him, witheld his order by making it seem as if his fries weren’t ready to buy time for the police to come. The police eventually came and Stephens fled. This time, the state police were able to get to him in time. According to CNN, the police did a “PIT maneuver” which is when an individual rams a car to disable it. Bythe time the police were able to get to the vehicle, he’d already committed suicide.
Several Cleveland officials and the police department are relieved that the chase to find Stevens is over. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said he’s satisfied that there is “closure” but Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams still wants more answers. “We’re grateful that this has ended. We would prefer that it had not ended this way because there are a lot of questions, I’m sure, that not only the family but the city in general would have had for Steve.”Stevens on his Facebook Live broadcast cited his motive to go on this killing spree is dysfunctions with his girlfriend.
Our condolences go out to the city of Cleveland and, most importantly, the family of innocent victim Robert Goodwin.
