64,000 black women missing is a staggering number! A number that surely shouldn’t be ignored! However it’s not very prominent news, most people have no idea the number is so high! AND that was also a number quoted 3 years ago so who knows what it is right now!
During this time Natallie Wilson, co-founder of the Black and Missing Foundation and Avis Jones-DeWeever joined Roland Martin to talk about the issue (video below).
At present Black and Missing say that According to the FBI
(January 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016): A total of 242,295 minorities were reported missing in the United States (out of 647,435 for all races). Hispanics are included in the white category. So that’s a LOT of missing black people and minorities, way out of proportion from what I see.
We need to talk about this, we need to support organisations like Black and Missing and need their knowledge and voice to be heard on mainstream media. Whether it’s poverty, abuse, trafficking or anything else, these figures need to come down and the root causes need to be tackled.
