1895 – William Still, composer, born.

1933 – Louis Farrakhan, religious leader of the Nation of Islam, born.

Louis Farrakhan, Sr. is the outspoken leader of the Nation of Islam. He served as the minister of a few major mosque inside the religion, Boston and Harlem, before being elevated to the NOI leader by Elijah Muhammad.

Farrakhan has never been one to bite his tongue in the face of American and European oppression of black and brown people around the world. For this, he is honored by many, even outside his religion, for his bravery and willingness to speak truth to power.
