In an unparalleled move, the White House is holding a conference on improving the situation of a faction that contributes significantly to this country and yet is helpless and is in need of our attention.

The conference is being held today at the White House hosted by the White House Council on Women and Girls and the Anna Julia Cooper Center at Wake Forest University is called “Advancing Equity for Women & Girls of Color: A Research Agenda for the Next Decade.”

This meeting brings together scholars and people from private, government and charitable worlds, This conference will be focusing on programs to create more options for people, especially women and girls of color, and to remove barriers to success. Other issues the summit will address include economic growth, healthcare, criminal impartiality, exposure to violence, and the over exploitation of women in the media.

The White House has also declared a $100 million proposal over the span five years by a group of women’s philanthropies from Prosperity Together to develop the level of economic security among low-income women. They have announced was an $18 million funding obligation by the a group of colleges and universities, research organizations, publishers and public interest institutions called ” Collaborative to Advance Equity through Research” which is led by Wake Forest University who’s goal is to promote future research on women and girls of color.

The administration’s recent efforts is constructing a 2014 report which highlights the favorable outcome of women of color in areas such as increase in the percentage of graduates and business proprietorship but also their setbacks such as the absence of job opportunity, lower pay and health care discrepancy.

According to the White House, the suspension rates for black girls are higher than girls from other racial or ethnic group, and are much higher than white girls and boys. Further, African-American girls consists of 14 percent of the U.S. population in which 32 percent of the girls are detained, committed and are treated as criminals even though they are casualties of trauma and abuse whom are in need of support. Other than that, Black and Latina girls are most likely to become pregnant, while women of color are discounted in engineering and science and are inexplicably impacted by poverty.

Women and girls of color is an important asset to our communities, companies and across the country. And that is why they need our utmost attention
