So the promo posters for the new movie Gods of Egypt have dropped and guess what? The gods seem to be mostly white, yet again the movie industry is imposing it’s whiteness on African stories!

The posters depict some of the main actors and you guessed it, the center stage, the main man, the god Horus is pretty damn white!

So white, he is blond and played by none other than Jaime Lanister from Game of Thrones! Ok, we know his real name is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and he is looking slightly less blond in the picture but definitely not the North African Horus is depicted as in Egyptian mythology.

And for the other cast members!

Geoffrey Rush, Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, Abbey Lee, Rufus Sewell to name a few of the actors in this movie that looks to be a near complete whitewash!

But don’t worry, there is a token OF COURSE!!!! The god of Wisdom, Thoth, is played by South Carolinian Chadwick Boseman!

After last years controversy with the movie Exodus: Gods and Kings you would have thought the industry would have learned but it’s clear that the movie producers in this new production have their heads high up in the sky and seem to be missing the point.

Of course this story is mythical but seriously it’s so clear that the casting for this piece is not acceptable. The ancient Egyptians painted many of these characters for us and despite the bird head Horus is definitely dark skinned. There is no lack of talent in the industry and this could have been an excellent opportunity to cast POC in a fantastical take on a world we all would love to see light up on the screen.

I won’t be watching this movie, that is for sure.
