In the 2nd half of the 90s Chris Rock brought the Chris Rock show to national television. The show was unapologetically black for much of it and highlighted a lot of issues.

However it was mainstream and let’s face it, a lot of white people like Rock because they can laugh at black people and not feel guilty about it!

In one of his episodes he put out a satirical segment titled “How To Not Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police”. The segment suggests that black people respect the police, obey the law and play nice.

However he did delve into how a white friend can help you and bordered on some of the other reasons that so many black people are at the hands of police violence.

So, this video doesn’t do well with me. Of course some black people do this crap, so do whites and they don’t get beaten half as much.

However, maybe I misunderstand Rock, maybe this is pure satire, maybe he is saying this advice is whack because fact is most people do obey the law and the police… And anyway, many offences don’t require a beating. The police are supposed to treat people breaking the law with a certain level of respect too.
