WORD: Black Women TAKE BACK Racist Twitter #LoudBlackGirls Hashtag

by | Jul 20, 2016 | Culture, News | 0 comments

So, there’s been a spate of people using the hashtag #LoudBlackGirls on Twitter and let’s face it, we all know that such a thing only results in pure racism!

But let’s talk about the awesome black women who are NOT letting this sh*t get in their way and reclaiming the hashtag.

It seems it started with activist Feminista Jones posting a Twitter message that asked how they “found their individual voice and how they use it,” she asked them to tag #LoudBlackGirls and take back the hashtag for their own. WORD!

Feminista started the party and posted a few tweets such as:

I think of how Maya Angelou was mute after rape. I think of how she became a #LoudBlackGirl through her writing and activism.

I think about how Black girls are suspended and expelled from schools more than anyone else, silenced in their education #LoudBlackGirls

I think about how we silence ourselves to avoid the “Angry Black Woman” stereotype when we really just need to be heard #LoudBlackGirls

Others have joined in with some of the following:

Black Women are always too loud until you want us to show up at a protest to yell for you. #LoudBlackGirls

I support #LoudBlackGirls because they’re expected to quietly accept the way the world throws them away.https://twitter.com/feministajones/status/753881084430016512 …

My volume doesn’t matter. If they don’t like what they’re hearing, I’m just one of those #LoudBlackGirls

My HS friend group was called the “loud black girls” because we laughed too much and enjoyed each others presence. #loudblackgirls #blackjoy

No, She’s not upset, She’s just very confident in this conversation and her voice matches her enthusiasm. #LoudBlackGirls

When you’re black, a girl, passionate and use your voice they consider you angry and loud. #LoudBlackGirls
