San Francisco tech company Slack put out a very clear and awesome message about diversity on Monday night at the Crunchies awards, the annual technology award show. Slack won the Fastest Rising Startup award and they decided to send a strong message when they sent up four of their engineers.
The 4 black woman are not the stereotype for tech company engineers and Slack wanted everyone to know that diversity and success are core to them.
Reading from a Smartphone one of the engineers spoke, saying
“We’re super excited to accept this award on behalf of everyone at Slack,”
“We’re engineers, so we came prepared …
“There are many things that are major keys to the success of Slack, not least of which are diversity and inclusion,”
“The idea that diversity at companies improves the culture and the bottom line may be somewhat controversial, but all we know is we’ve got 9 percent of women of color engineering at Slack—four of whom are up here tonight, in ‘Formation,’ ”
“And we’re the fastest-growing enterprise-software startup of all time. So … ?”
Kudos to Slack and lets hope they keep pushing diversity and maybe these women will go onto helm their own software companies innovating in the Industry.
