When threatened it’s easy to let your personal defence mechanism kick in, save yourself first, self preservation above all else! However, this young lady gets a special mention for taking a severe attack from a family dog and still keeping her thoughts on protecting the baby of her best friend.
Now, before we go into this…. It was the family dog, there is a change the dog was actually protecting the baby as the parents were out and the best friend was looking after the kids. Unfortunately there is no way to know what the dog was actually thinking and it’s now euthanised (so, I guess we can’t ask it!). BUT the woman and baby are both safe and she is making a recovery.
So what happened?
Felicia Hambrick was babysitting her best friends kids aged 6, 3 and just 8 months. Her best friend Cassy was out with her husband for an anniversary night out. Felicia was at the home, holding the baby and the other kids were watching TV. The dog was in a room frantic, trying to get out and it managed to get out!
Luckily Cassy’s mother was also home but she had stepped out for a moment and at that time the dog got out and went straight for Felicia, who had the baby in her arms. She fell to the floor as she was violently attacked by the family pitbull. She craddled the baby and managed to stop it’s head hitting the floor on the way down and stopped the dog getting near it… although she did say “I knew he didn’t want her,… He was coming after me.”
Cassy’s mother came back in and beat the dg back, she was also bitten.
Speaking of the attack, Cassy said.
“There’s nothing that Felicia can say or anybody can do that’s going to make me feel not guilty,”
“If I was home, this wouldn’t have happened. She’s my best friend. Because of me, her life is forever changed.”
“I’m so thankful for her,”
“If the dog had gotten to my baby in any way, she could have died. I’m so thankful that Felicia took that and put it on herself instead of my baby.”
A courageous friend!
