The traditional way of just screaming back at a kid clearly does not work, in the long run! Detentions in school cause resentment and stiffle learning!

So, maybe this really is the answer? The video and transcript are below:

This Baltimore school replaced detention with mediation.

The results have been incredible at Robert W. Coleman Elementary.

Coleman didn’t have a single suspension last year, the program’s co-founder Andres Gonzalez told MIC.

When a child gets in trouble, they get sent to the Mindful Moment Room.

They do breathing exercises, yoga and talk through the issue with a staff member.

After meditation, kids come back to class attentive and ready to learn.

A 2013 study found that mindfullness training boosted verbal GRE scores by 60 points.

The mediation program is part of the Holistic Life Foundation.

HLF organizes after-school programs and meditation rooms in schools across Baltimore.

Rather than just disciplining kids HLF helps them learn ways of coping with stress and frustration.
