A few weeks ago, there was a severe blowback when Steve Harvey and other celebrities met with Donald Trump and his administration at Trump Tower. The most severe criticism of these meetings was that they’re celebrities.
Why wouldn’t Trump meet with community leaders or even conscious celebrities such as David Banner or Jessie Williams? Well, it seems like the Trump administration and the GOP are changing their strategy, now targeting HBCU’s at the start of Black History Month.
It looks as if the Trump administration targeting of HBCU’s is guided by the assertion that former President Barack Obama didn’t do enough in his support of HBCU’s.
Politico published a report showcasing the displeasure that HBCU presidents had with President Obama, most notably citing funding failures. The Trump administration will be meeting with HBCU presidents later this month, alongside Republican representative Mark Walker (NC) and Republican Senator Tim Scott. Tim Scott says his support for HBCU’s comes from wife, who is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University.
At this meeting Omarosa, who works with Trump’s office of Public Engagement, will be presenting him a draft of an Executive Order crafted specifically for HBCU’s.
The executive order would consist of more directed federal funds towards HBCU’s. Reportedly, attendees of the Wednesday Black History Month meeting held at the White House told Trump that HBCU’s outside of Howard were being severely underfunded. Omarosa, who is an alumni of Howard University, is reportedly leading the charge. All money isn’t good money but is it wrong to hold out hope that maybe something good could come from this? I’m not holding my breath though….
