Nate Parker has been making some major moves. Recently he announced on tweeter that, at Wiley College, the Nate Parker School of Film and Drama will be launched. Yes that’s right this 36 year-old man has his own school. Nate Parker’s School of Film and Drama aspires to educate students on all aspects of filmmaking. Mr. Parker said, “The hope is that we cover all aspects of filmmaking, from sound, lighting and cinematography, to just studying film specifically with the cultural component and the history of film.”
As some of you may know Wiley College is where The Great Debaters, which Parker played a major role in, was filmed. The goal is to get more people of color interested and working in the filming industry. There is so much more to the film industry than acting alone and Parker is opening the door for the youth to explore to this opportunity.
Although classes will not be available until the Fall of this year they will be hosting 30 high school and college seniors in a nine day trial of the program this summer.
This is an amazing step in the right direction especially with current controversy in the film industry surrounded around the Oscars and diversification. I’m sure Wiley students will be enthusiastic about having the opportunity to advance themselves in the film industry with help of the Nate Parker School of Film and Drama.
