Let me start off saying that I like the fact that Alpha Phi Alpha is interested in playing a pivotal role when it comes to the violence in Chicago. There are a lot of young black men who are misguided and are helping the murder rate go up when it comes to African-Americans. Lord knows we need somebody to help the young black men in Chicago with guidance and the importance of being a real man.

However, young black men in Chicago don’t respond to marches. In fact, nothing has really come out of black people marching when you look at history. Every change that has occurred has dealt with one thing and one thing only: Economics. Majority of these young black men in Chicago are gang-banging, stealing, drug-dealing, and murdering is due to the lack of economic opportunity. What our people in Chicago need is an black economic structure in our community where we can reinvest our money back into ourselves.

Yes, the fact that black fathers are not raising black boys is a huge problem. Yes there are dirty cops in the city of Chicago that put innocent black boys in jail (some would say their are cops that murder innocent black boys as well). Yes, we do have issues within in community that we could fixed without any outside help. However, until we address economics, nothing is going to change. If you don’t believe this, just take a look a history. I will ask again, what has marching changed?
