Houston – Apparently, a Black man can no longer hang out with his family while Black; even while celebrating his wife’s birthday party.

Kevin Cooper, who decided to take a walk to a nearby store during his wife’s birthday gathering, was accosted, detained and then assaulted by a Houston police officer who remains unnamed at this time and is still in possession of his job while there is an “ongoing internal investigation.”

The officer was searching for a white guy and decided Cooper’s black profile fit the description.

Cooper made the mistake of ‘resisting arrest’ by asking if he could, while handcuffed, sit in the police cruiser–since he was appropriately dressed (no hoodie, no sagging jeans, nothing white-unapproved) for the party.

The officer responded to this request by throwing him to the ground, which resulted in some lacerations and an ankle sprain.

When the officer discovered he’d assaulted the wrong man (*cough cough*), he simply walked away and left Cooper there with his injuries – didn’t even try to call EMTs to check the man out before he left.

The officer’s victim called 911 instead.

It’s typical behavior for cops who consistently engage in criminal behavior and are immunized from it by law.

In Houston alone, the local PDs have been investigated for everything from looting already-looted victims who had the unmitigated gall to call them to report it, to assaulting people who turn themselves in, to violating restraining orders placed against them, to discriminating against and sexually assaulting other officers on the force. And that’s not the half of it.

That’s three things America can do without right now: Police Officers, Judges and Congress, just to name a few.

Keep up to date with everything going on in the Urban Intellectuals Universe.
