For the longest time, we lamented about how our black celebrities weren’t down for the cause. Why won’t they donate to HBCU’s? Why won’t they speak up on cases of injustice? Why won’t they produce positive images of black society? Well, we’re in a new era where our celebrities and superstars are showing conscious. A perfect example is Kevin Hart.

Hart, who recently launched his own streaming service Laugh Out Loud, has donated $25,000 to relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. The Category 4 hurricane hit Texas late last week and it’s expected to displace 30,000 citizens. At least five people have been killed and dozens of others injured. Kevin Hart’s aid couldn’t come at a more perfect time.

That’s not all that came with his donation though. Hart also took to his social media to issue a challenge to offer relief assistance for Hurricane Harvey. In a video, he challenged celebrities such as The Rock, Steve Harvey, Chris Rock and Beyonce to give to to the Red Cross and other credible organizations in relief efforts. He said, “I think we participate in a lot of challenges on the internet. Some meaningful, some meaningless but we’ve all done them. At this point I’m going to start a real challenge. I challenge my celebrity friends to follow my lead and donate $25,000 to Hurricane Harvey…to the Red Cross… I think when you do it, you all should tag someone else.”

TMZ, in response to this article, said that Kevin Hart “shamed” other fellow celebrities into donating and that it’s “not awesome”. What about Kevin’s comments is something that would make his contemporaries feel “shamed” into helping? TMZ is on one! Go ahead Kevin Hart! Call out and challenge these celebrities to put their money where their mouths are and assist in relief efforts. It’s a whole bunch of black people suffering down there in Texas that are fans of Kevin Hart, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle’s comedy along with loving Beyonce and Jay-Z’s music. All of our black celebrities should help out no matter what the cost! Beyonce definitely should. She’s from Houston after all!
