Hats off to Dr. Viola Davis who has joined the ranks of a few other accomplished celebrities that have received their honorary doctoral degrees. This list includes P. Diddy, Jill Scott, and LL Cool J for their hard work and dedication over the years. Davis, an award winning actress, received her degree from The Julliard School.
Davis has definitely has had her share of success as an actress, but on May 23rd, 2014, she elevate her status to Doctor with this very special honor of Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts and was able to participate in the schools 2014 graduation at Alice Tully Hall in NYC.
It may seem like Viola Davis came out of nowhere with her rise, but that is only for the young or uninformed.
She has been a staple on the big screen for decades and it is great to see her finally getting her due.
Most of the country and world will know her from her newest hit show on ABC’s Thursday night, “How to Get Away With Murder”, the number one new show on television. It is written and produce by one of Hollywood’s best, Shonda Rhimes of the “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” fame.
Davis, unlike Kerry Washington, is on another level when it comes to acting, so it has many people very excited to see her in a leading role on Thursday, teamed up with Rhimes because they know great television will be made.
Congratulations Dr. Davis! Continue to be a trailblazer and pioneer for black women and the black community around the world.
We wish you nothing but the best.
