Sara Beltran-Hernandez found herself on the wrong side of the law when she got seized and removed from the hospital by Texas law enforcers. Hernandez who was apprehended for failing to produce legal documents by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) agents is now fighting for her life in detention after law enforcement took her back in the Prairieland Detention Center. It was earlier this month that Hernandez started having severe nosebleeds and complained of mild headaches that she got admitted to a Fort Worth hospital.
Now Hernandez’s family fears that she will lose her life while in detention if she continues to be denied surgery. According to the family’s spokesman, Melissa Zuniga, Beltran-Hernandez is too weak to even walk properly. Speaking to The New York Daily News, she said that Beltran-Hernandez was brought in with both her ankles tied while on a wheelchair.
Beltran-Hernandez family has since been trying to petition for her asylum in fear of losing her for good. Her asylum request was denied by a Dallas immigration judge on Jan. 26. The case is now on appeal. Mrs. Hernandez was diagnosed with a brain tumor but still, continues to be held up in detention despite her condition.
She does have access to 24 hour emergency care but her family does not know how much longer she will survive if she does not have surgery to remove the tumor.
