Alton Sterling, a 37-year old man is the victim that was shot by two police officers in Louisiana on Tuesday and died on the spot.
According to the report from Dr. William Clerk, who is the East Baton Coroner, Alton passed away after the gun shoots on his chest and back, but wasn’t able to confirm that he was shot seven times.
According to the statement from the police, it is reported that the two officers had some contact with the late Sterling in the parking lot of “Triple S Food Mart” and later, an altercation was ensued.
It was during during the altercation that he was shot and passed away at the scene. Based on the “standard procedure”, the two officers have been placed on administration leave to allow for the investigation.
From the latest statistics, it is confirmed that over 1,000 deadly shootings by the US police are the black Americans. The death of Alton Sterling comes in the middle of heightened tension over the deaths of African-American at the police officers’ hands.
Ted James, who is the state Rep has condemned the police shooting as ‘a murder’, saying that, “It has made me question what it really means to be land on the free and home of the brave”. Protesters have also taken to the streets after the incident.
