Twitter has an extremely diverse user base, however the board of the company never reflected that and despite a promise to diversify so far they had come up short.
However, now they have appointed their first black board member, and that member also happens to be a woman too, a very successful woman.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey made the announcement today saying that BET CEO and Chairwoman Debra Lee will join the company’s board of directors. She will also be the head of the Nominating/Governance committee.
Lee took to Twitter to say:
Thrilled to be joining the @twitter board. It’s transformed the media and the world like few other things in history (and continues to)!!

Obviously this isn’t really enough and the company needs more pressure to diversify but it’s a start.
