The TV Academy has been going for 70 years and for the first time ever they just appointed a black CEO.
Veteran award winning producer Hayma “Screech” Washington is now chairman and CEO. He was previously co-governor of the producers’ branch of the academy.
Previously he was a Walt Disney exec and has worked o sports, awards and music shows. His executive producer position on The Amazing Race has won him seven Emmys.
On Jan 1st he will start a 2 year tenure.
In a statement Washington said:
“This is a time of considerable change for our industry and I am deeply committed to ensuring that the academy is at the forefront as we move towards a more inclusive future,”
