Recent superbowl-winner and most-valuable player Tom Brady of the New England Patriots is under fire for a recent Instagram post.
The post itself was tame. Brady posted a picture of him and his teammates following their overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons. However, it was the text under the picture that drew ire from many.
The text quoted under the picture was from Rudyard Kipling’s “If,” that tells the tale of camaraderie and courage in very dire circumstances. However, Kipling himself is a very controversial literary figure since he published works in the past that spoke of “the white man’s burden” and spoke of how whites had a responsibility to culture “primitive” cultures, a subject that was commonly found in many of his literary works.
Due to his cozy relationship with President Donald Trump, many people continue to hurl ire Brady’s way, but as of now, he has yet to remove the poem from his Instagram.
