Canadian schools in Toronto have decided that they will no longer allow their students to travel to the US. This decision has been attributed to the uncertainty surrounding the US travel ban, as well as the potential mental and emotional trauma that children could face if they were turned away at the border.
Even though the US travel ban is yet to be implemented, due to the rulings of two federal judges that prohibited the ban from taking effect, President Trump intends to appeal the decision.
This predicament has provided the Toronto District School Board with a difficult choice. Hence, Toronto schools will no longer allow student trips to the US. In spite of this, the board decided that 24 trips that had been approved prior to their decision would proceed as planned.
The decision by the Toronto District School Board to stop trips to the US came after the Girl Guides of Canada had decided to prohibit trips to the US. In addition, the group also forbid the use of connecting flights through the US.
The Girl Guide group did mention Trump’s travel ban in their statement. However, the message from the group indicated that the current immigration state had prompted their decision to veto trips to the US.
