Flint’s urgent water contamination crisis really needs attention and it seemed like the government was really dragging it’s heals and let’s face it, doing absolutely nothing! However, finally the President has announced and aid package.
Here is what the Pres said after he pledged to help after Wednesday’s visit to Michigan (but not Flint).
“We’re going to have that funding available to you by the end of next week, and that includes more than $80 million for the state of Michigan,” Obama told the U.S. Conference of Mayors on Thursday. “Our children should not have to be worried about the water that they’re drinking in American cities. That’s not something that we should accept.”
“It is a reminder of why you can’t shortchange basic services we provide to our people and that we, together, provide as a government to make sure that the public health and safety is preserved,”
Obama also declared a disaster in the region on Saturday. This opens up Federal funding for citizens dealing with toxic lead levels.
Hopefully the gov will now take this seriously and follow through on their words.
