Recently, I received a question in the inbox about my behavior on the Urban Intellectual Facebook page, so I decided to post it and address the question directly:

Why is your Facebook Page so nasty, harsh and out of order at times? I love the information I learn here, the debate and more, but couldn’t it be achieved in a more respectable, appreciative manner?

#1 Intellectual Booshie Shunning

I don’t like intellectually booshie people, so if you not mentally tough enough or have too much of a stick up your ass to handle straight talk and a little profanity, then this probably isn’t the place for you.

#2 Don’t Want Anything From You

I don’t want anything from you, which is why I don’t have any problem being blunt, truthful and even harsh. You should appreciate this as I will always tell it like it is. I don’t need your vote, your annual donation or even for you to stay around here or anything. This is a hobby and I do it because I enjoy engaging the black community.

Not trying to run you off and make yo leave, but my lively hood or family’s future isn’t hanging in the balance, so i’m not bending or compromising. Would I like for you stick around and enjoy what is being done? Sure, but I was doing this when we had 700 fans of the page, not almost 37,000, so the show is going to continue regardless. Please believe it.

#3 I Am Who I Am. I Don’t Want To Be Your Leader

This is who I am. I’m not putting up a facade, being fake or trying to act some type of way to gain your approval. Don’t like me or UI, fine. Cost you nothing, pay me no mind.

I don’t have any desire to lead you anywhere. That is my role and responsibility. Besides, leaders get shot in our community. LOL, not sure if you have been paying attention. But seriously, i’m no one to lead you. My desire is just to agitate you enough to keep you thinking, challenge you to learning and dare you to research.

Could I do it differently? Yep, and I have ideas on how that would look.

Am I going to do it different? HELL NO, you haven’t been paying attention, huh?

#4 Reaching Past You

I’m trying to reach PAST MOST OF YOU anyway. There are enough outlets with intellectual, relevant banter, discussion, and news info for you stuffy types to hold your nose up and talk down upon the lot of our people. You DON’T represent the entire universe of black intellectuals. Some of us are raw, gritty and like frank discussion and don’t mind or might even use a little profanity (gasp).

In fact, I would say there is a much larger population who are outcast because they are not able to form perfect grammatical sentences (or not interested), are not as linguistically capable as others and feel belittled into silence as a result. We are only left with your booshie, uptight and often incomplete voices that don’t tell the entire story and mostly, only the story from your perspectives which is often not the same as the outcast.

Get out of our way with your intellectual sensitivity and grave desire to hold on to the status quo. We are giving voice to the other 70% of people you have tried to keep in the shadows. Your days are numbered and I will be damned if I allow you to over run this page. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid, not going to happen.

#5 Not Making Friends

I have enough friends and don’t give a damn if you like me or not. Zero is my interest level in altering the brand, mood, or positioning of the page to make more of you like us. I couldn’t care less. Beat it if you can’t handle the fact that I won’t beg you to be a fan or like us.

In fact, I rather you leave so the rest of us can continue with the regularly scheduled program without receiving your whining comments in the inbox. I call it addition by subtraction.

There are many personalities on this page as admins and this doesn’t represent all of their views, in their defense. However, this does 1000% represent my view, THE OWNER.

Oh yes, and before you make an attempt to say “well, he is uneducated,” stop it. I hold an under grad degree in Marketing and a Masters in Business Administration, so does my wife of almost 13 years. I am a business owner, father, community volunteer, chess player, master student of our history, very well read, and on a constant search of knowledge and enlightenment.
