The Poor Teacher’s Gravy Train May Be Over

Yes! Yes! Yes! Congratulations to the kids in California. Have you ever had a job and you failed to accomplish the goals of the company and you still kept your job? Let me answer that for you, the answer is h*** no! You would be fired for being incompetent and rightfully so.

I used to tell my colleagues the only way a teacher could be fired in an under resourced urban school is to f*** a child or to kill him or her. Teachers have tenure. Which means, if they can hold on to the job for 18 months or two years depending on the district, the job is theirs. For some teachers getting tenure means, “I can retire on the job.” Used to be if you did thirty years you could get close to your last salary as a pension until you die.

In some large urban districts if a teacher finally got disciplined for something really egregious, they would go sit at the district office, with full pay. Then they would come back to school. Imagine nationwide only 1% of teachers contracts are non renewed, fired. They are not that good, thank the unions.

Nine children in California brought a lawsuit against the school district, it was their contention that tenured teachers were not teaching . They were not doing their jobs and the children were not learning. Hurrah for the children, parents, community and the judge!!!!!!

Some administrators call what teachers do “The Blame Game,” It goes a little like this—- They blame the kids; they blame the buildings; they blame the environment; they blame the parents; they blame everyone except themselves for children not succeeding. They lost yesterday and guess what? They still have no d***** introspection, they are still playing the blame game.

Teachers refuse to police themselves or their peers. For decades they have gotten away with murder. Yes, it is murder when you destroy a child’s future. It is murder when you then blame the child for his/her won demise. Some teachers have poor classroom management techniques, meaning the class is always in an uproar, therefore, they cannot teach. This is always a good excuse for some teachers to chill all day, “the children are out of control,” I say they should quit.

The worst teachers are in the most under resourced school, They could not take that s*** to well resourced areas they would kick their a**** out. Highly resourced areas do not play that s***. If you do not work you get fired. In under resourced areas you can come in looking like you are going to clean a house. In highly resourced areas you have to look like a professional when you come to work.

The Teacher’s Unions are one of the last strong unions in the country. I am not anti-union, I am anti bad teachers. The Teacher’s Unions forgot their purpose. They forgot when they were negotiating for more planning periods and less time in the classroom that children had to learn.

When you compare the contracts of teachers in under resourced urban areas, to the contracts of teachers highly resourced areas you notice a stark difference. The under resourced teachers contract is about three times as thick. Why? Well, they have negotiated every term and condition of employment.

The teachers came out fighting today, they were doing their same tap dance around the blame game. Never once did I hear them say they needed to improve teaching and learning. What they are going to do now is APPEAL.

Will the children win again, I hope so.
