The Lawyer Who Freed George Zimmerman Now Represents Family of Black Man Who Died In Police Custody

Mark O’Mara is the lawyer responsible for getting George Zimmerman off on murder chargers. In 2012, Zimmerman approached, shot and killed unarmed, teen Trayvon Martin.

O’Mara has been blasted for his participation in the freeing of Zimmerman, but has been seen taking not only an interest but a stand for the struggle young, black men are having in America. It has many people scratching their heads and wondering if he is being real or playing it up for the cameras and positive publicity.

george-zimmerman-mark-o-maraAccording to News One, O’Mara has taken up representation for the family of Matthew Ojibade. On New Year’s Day, Ojibade died while being retained by the Chatham County Police Department in Savannah, Georgia.

Here are some more details to the case.

Ojibade’s girlfriend called the police due to a domestic dispute. She asked the police to take him to the hospital after informing them the 22 year old, black male suffered from bipolar disorder and provided his prescription medicine.

The police didn’t listen to her and took Ojibade to Chatham County Detention Center.

Apparently there were some scuffles with the policeand Ojibade was confined to a chair. He later died in the chair and now O’Mara is asking questions on behalf of the family.

O’Mara spoke at a press conference on Tuesday.

O’Mara says, “Unfortunately this turned from helping, to an arrest pretty quickly and we want to know why—we want to know why the family’s request that he be brought to the hospital—which seemed to be reasonable – were not heeded. I hope [sheriff’s deputies are] just going to be open, honest and straight forward with why they did what they did because we know it had a tragic result. He’s dead.”

Many questions remain surrounding this case, but many are concerned as to why O’Mara took the case in the first place. Many suspect he smells the opportunity to be out front of another high profile case and more national media attention and fame.

We will be following the details of this case, but want to know your thoughts.
