The banks are closed, protesting in the streets, and the unemployment rate is skyrocketing in Greece. Salaries are being slashed and people are limited to only take a small amount of money from their bank accounts. Have you thought about what you would do in this situation? Nearly 60 companies have closed and Athens is full of empty shops. So, the thought of just finding employment elsewhere is unlikely. Would your education allow you to survive in this climate? Every day that passes there is a new challenge for the people of Greece.
This crisis makes me think about how I would survive if this happened in America. With no government assistance and companies falling each day, what skills do you have to survive? Can we stick together to support one another? These are questions many of you have thought of, but probably couldn’t come up with a definitive answer.
In the black community we should be able to grow our own food. Maybe even develop our own system of trading goods and services. Can this be possible? Supporting each others trade and contributing to the community with your skills. We rely heavily on physical currency that if it was frozen there would be total chaos. If your account froze today could you feed your family?
As a community, can we break away from all government assistance and rely solely on our community. Educating ourselves with skills that we need to survive. Caring about our neighbor and the community raising our children to be productive members. With the advancement of technology I highly doubt we could ever get back to this way of thinking. With prayer I hope we don’t see a crisis of this magnitude in America.
