Afros, dreadlocks, up dos, big hair don’t care right? Unless you’re going swimming! When you sit and watch these YouTube tutorials about a black woman’s hair regimen you become a bit more understanding about why we hate getting our wet.
I enjoy swimming but the thought of washing and styling my hair every time I get out of the pool is stressful. Which is why Nomvuyo Treffers created a line of swimming caps specifically for black women.
Treffers is an avid swimmer but chose not to because after spending her day at the beach or pool the last thing she wanted to do when she got home was hair. She has long, luxurious locs and fitting them in a swimming cap was impossible.
“I started thinking how can it be that in a country like South Africa, with the demographics that we have that we don’t have a product like this for black people,” said Treffers. So instead of giving up something she and her daughters love she created a solution.
When it comes to product diversity, people of color are often an afterthought. Inclusion has long been a problem but this problem is creating an influx of black entrepreneurs!
“There is no such thing as one size fits all,” says Treffers. “There is a dire need to feel represented.”
Is it me or is the name of the swim caps missing in this article?
It is missing. The post that linked me to this showed a picture, though. So I was able to find their site… http://swimma.co.za/wp3/
Not you. I noticed that too! The name and how to order are missing!

I’m surprised by the number of grammatical errors.
Well this article was a pointless waste of time. Not imfo given. Comr on Urban Intellectuals, you have got to do better
PLUS this is from 2017!
What nonsense is this? You’re copying and pasting half stories?!
I would like to know if the swim caps still available on this website
