The shooting officer responsible for the death of Philando Castile is being charged with his murder.
This summer Castile was pulled over by Officer Jeronimo Yanez because Yanez said Castile fit the description of a suspect from a recent robbery.
Castile’s fiancée, Diamond Reynolds, said the officer asked Castile for his license and registration, Castile told officer he had a concealed carry permit and a gun (as they inform you to do in classes required to receive a concealed carry permit) before reaching for his license.
After the shooting Reynolds began to live-streamed the incident and explain what transpired. She spoke in detail about the shooting, as Yanez shouted with his gun still drawn, “I told him not to reach for it.”
Yanez will make his first court appearance this Friday and is being charged with second-degree manslaughter and two felony counts of dangerous discharge of a firearm because according to Ramsey County Attorney John Choi, Yanez put the lives of Diamond Reynolds and her 4 year-old daughter in danger when he fired seven rounds into the car.
