With great enthusiasm and pride Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, posted a selfie of Instagram of Capitol Hill’s 2016 interns. We love to call the United States a melting pot and talk about how we are all given the same opportunities in America, yet it is extremely hard for me to believe that there was not one person of color interested in interning on Capitol Hill. I can imagine this would be an opportunity for any college student. I may have seen an Asian and a Mexican in the crowd so they may have filled the quota. Should we really be surprised?
How often do we talk to our children about politics and how much do we actually know about politics? Along with law and law enforcement, we need to be encouraging our children to get into low and high level political positions to invoke change.
There are laws, bills, and ordinances that target people in the African American community but they can be changed if we put ourselves in the right positions!
