After a recent photoshoot with Complex magazine, Lionel Richie’s 18 year-old daughter chimed in on racism.

Most of know that racism is still lingering in the shadows of highly insensitive minds but Sofia Richie confirmed it when she spoke about her personal encounters:

“I’m very light, so some people don’t really know that I’m black. I’ve been in situations where people will say something kind of racist, and I’ll step in and they’ll be like, ‘Oh, well, you’re light.’”

“That still doesn’t cut it, buddy,” Sofia says.. “It’s 2016 — you better get your sh!t together before you get slapped out here.”

She’s proud of who she is and doesn’t make any excuses for ignorance. People believe the racists comments and behavior are acceptable because they aren’t being put in their place. Instead of turning a blind eye to it, she checking the ignorance immediately.

I do wonder what she means by “kind of” racist, either it’s racist or it’s not but at least she speaks up.
