According to recent reports, there is a great possibility that the Serena William, the current World Number 1 tennis player, may be clinching the top spot as the World’s Highest-Paid Female Athlete. This comes after Maria Sharapova is deemed to potentially lose some endorsements after testing positive for a drug that has been banned. This occurred during the Australian Open which took place in January.

Apparently, it has been confirmed that some endorsers like Tag Heuer, Porsche and Nike have already suspended their sponsorship deals with Maria Sharapova as they continue to monitor the turn of events. Sharapova is believed to have been taking Meldonium, a drug that was included under banned substances by the International Tennis Federation and World Anti-Doping Agency.

In a statement with regard to the Maria Sharapova’s suspension deal with Nike, Serena William said she can’t make comments on that issue since Nike is a successful company that critically understands how they make their decisions. Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova, the World’s No. 7 tennis player, has been holding the Highest-paid Female Athlete slot for more than 10 years.

Such imminent withdrawals of endorsement deals could not only pull Sharapova down but may also affect her career greatly. For Serena William, this could be another superb title into her collective 21 great titles. Serena has done an amazing job throughout her career and should have been the highest paid female athlete many moons ago so this is well overdue.
