Congress has failed you again, American people. By now, there is no way this surprises you, but it will impact your life immediately. This isn’t like the sequester, which we endured not too long ago. The Government Shutdown will be felt around the country tomorrow. Despite the lack of agreement, the so called Obama Care, health care law goes into action.
How long with this high stakes game of chicken, with our future on the line, go on? No one really knows for sure. There is speculation a deal will be struck tomorrow. Others are saying that it could take as many as five days before an agreement is reached. Either way, there will be some pain felt in all corners of the country.
From the Chicago Tribune: “Unfortunately, we do not have a clear indication that Congress will act in time for the president to sign a continuing resolution before the end of the day tomorrow, October 1, 2013. Therefore, agencies should now execute plans for an orderly shutdown due to the absence of appropriations,” wrote OMB director Sylvia M. Burwell in a memorandum circulated at 11:45 Eastern time.
In a message broadcast to U.S. military personnel broadcast at midnight, Obama said, “Unfortunately, Congress has not fulfilled its responsibility. It has failed to pass a budget and, as a result, much of our government must now shut down until Congress funds it again.”
Illinois Republican Sen. Mark Kirk said both sides need to compromise to end the stalemate.
“It is unfortunate that partisan differences have brought us to a shutdown of our government. From day one I maintained that while I do not support ObamaCare, a shutdown of the federal government will have a negative impact on our markets and the economy. If we are to overcome this impasse, both sides must be willing to compromise,” he said in a statement.
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time the Congress couldn’t reach an agreement. 17 years ago, the country faced a similar experience. The results were painful for everyday people and many in Congress paid with their position in the next elections. Hopefully, many of these clowns in office will be booted as well.
So, what is next for this Government?
This recent Government group has put us to the ringer lately on all levels. We have endured school closings, budget cuts everywhere on the state and local level, rising taxes, pension cuts, dismantling of the Unions, the sequester, now Government shutdown, what is next? Government default?
