Should School Officials or Bully Be Held Accountable for 8 Year-Old Gabriel Taye’s Suicide?

Since the school released video surveillance of Gabriel appearing to be knocked unconscious by another student just 2 days before hanging himself, Cincinnati Police Homicide and Hamilton County Prosecutor, Joe Deter, are now investigating his death.

“Gabriel was a shining light to everyone who knew and loved him. His life was not only stolen from him, but from those of us who expected to watch him grow up and enjoy life, I feel he was cheated, I feel robbed,” Gabriel’s mom, Cornelia Reynolds, read in an open letter.

The school says they were not made aware of any bullying. When he was found unconscious on the floor, school officials say he told them he fainted. School officials also say they were never told about any bullying prior to this incident but the family’s attorney begs to differ. Claiming how could they be completely ignorant to any bullying when they have camera’s throughout the school?

Gabriel’s mother said she was never informed by her son or the school about the bullying. According to the Associated Press, his body will be examined again to search for anything they may have missed the first time, to hopefully give more clarity as to what happened to Gabriel leading up to his suicide.

Do you think the bully or school should be held accountable for Gabriel’s death?
