South Carolina police officer Michael Slager shot a black man and killed him. Unfortunately, this is an all too familiar scene in this country and no one in the black community is surprised by this outcome.
However, what is new, interesting and surprising is the fact that Slager was fired from the police department…..and get this, charged with MURDER. Often times, killer cop cases are sent to a grand jury to see if charges should be pressed and the grand jury finds a way to throw the case out.
Slager’s killing of Walter Scott is different in this regard. The officer will have his day in court, but the question on the minds of the Black Community is will he actually be convicted of murder and giving the death penalty?
New footage of the police car dashboard camera was released recently. Showing the routine stop. Scott was pulled over by Slager for a busted tail light.
After Slager spoke to Scott, took his license and insurance, he went back to the police car to run the information. For whatever reason, Scott decided to get out of the car and run. Some speculate he ran because he owes back child support, but that hasn’t been confirmed, nor is it relevant to the actions of Slager shooting and killing an unarmed black man.
Witnesses have stepped forward saying after Scott ran, Slager caught him and a tussle ensued. During the confrontation, Slager used his taser on Scott several times to try and subdue him, but Scott was able to get away.

It is important to note that one of the witnesses said Scott never attempted to take the taser from Slager during the altercation, but was only trying to get away from the officer.
While running away from Slager, Scott was shot in the back 5 times by the officer. There were a total of 8 shots fired, 5 hitting Scott in the back and killing him where he fell.
Officer Slager claims his life was threatened by Scott and that is why he shot and killed him. He also claims Scott took his taser from him.
What officer Slager didn’t know at the time is someone else was there filming Scott running way from the officer and being shot in the back. It was clear from the video he was under no clear and present threat to use deadly force.
In addition, the video also shows Officer Slager dropping something next to the body, which many are speculating must have been his taser to try and support his story that it was stolen from him during the altercation.
