So you come to my restaurant and order our famous meal, “Mama Dee’s Famous Chicken and Waffles.” It’s delicious, you’re hooked! Every Saturday morning you visit my restaurant and order the exact same meal. Then one day you come in, as you’re being seated the kitchen door swings open and you see my employees with several bags of Popeye’s chicken. Far too much chicken for them to be on their lunch breaks but more than enough to probably serve in a restaurant.
What do you do? Oust my restaurant for serving fast food chicken which is way cheaper than what I’m charging or is that just American business?
Well Sweet Dixie Kitchen located in Long Beach, California was busted doing just this. They serve Popeyes spicy tenders in their restaurant and pass them off as though they’ve been cooked in the restaurant, up until now.
Owner Kim Sanchez said they cannot fry chicken in their restaurant because they are located in a historic Long Beach building. She proudly admitted to serving Popeyes chicken and does not see a problem with it.
“If they ask, I tell customers where the chicken comes from,” she told the Press Telegram. “The fact is, Popeyes is the best you can buy. Would they rather I use some other brand, like Sysco, which I can buy for 40 cents a strip? At Popeyes I pay $1.60 a strip and we use three.”
A lot of customer were disappointed to know the truth about the famous dish. This is her response to a customer:
Would this stop you from supporting the business?
