Have you heard of Delta pilot Captain Calvin “Cal” Flanigan?
Well, when he retired from Delta Airlines, after 45 years, it was a special day.
His incredible career behind him and not a single day of work missed. That’s 45 years with no days missed! Many young workers can’t go 45 days without a day off for some excuse!
Speaking back in 2013 when he retired he talked to Fox 4 News about how he always knew he wanted to be a pilot saying “Even as a little kid watching airplanes take off when I was 9 or 10 years old, I knew I wanted to fly,”
He started on the ground as a mechanic in 1968 and aimed at the skies! It took him eight years until he was flying.
In the 37 years piloting he flew more than 12.
5 million miles! As a senior role model there was no better!
Steve Dickson of Delta Airlines also spole to Fox 4 and said “I don’t think that’s something that will ever be replicated, certainly in my lifetime.”
His retirement was not totally by choice either. 65 is the age that Delta says pilots have to retire and this could not be changed, even for a man of his excellence!
Let’s hope he is loving retirement and enjoying being a passenger!
