The nation and black community mourns the loss of 9 innocent lives during a racist massacre at the AME Church of Charleston, South Carolina this week when a young racist, white male intent on killing black lives, took his gun and ripped the community apart. Fortunately, Dylann Storm Roof was captured and on his way to be tried and fried for his transgressions against these people.
The fact this happened in South Carolina, a state that still flies the confederate battle flag over the state’s capital has many people outraged. Talk about a slap in the face of the people who have endured the historical hardships under this flag. It’s presence is a constant reminder of the past horror.
The Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina spoke yesterday about the tragedy expressing her concern and outrage. She was emotional and held back tears as she said, “We woke up today and the heart and soul of South Carolina was broken.”
However, many who have been paying attention to the Governor over the past few years have noticed she hasn’t had any concern regarding the confederate flag flying over the state’s capital building.
In fact, last October when Haley was running for office, her challenger called for the removal
In fact, last October when Haley was running for office, her challenger called for the removal of the confederate flag, but Haley said that it was a sensitive issue, but one of the past. In fact, she referenced that CEOs recruiting workers in the state not being concerned with the flag flying, so clearly it isn’t important.
“What I can tell you is over the last three and a half years, I spent a lot of my days on the phones with CEOs and recruiting jobs to this state. I can honestly say I have not had one conversation with a single CEO about the Confederate flag.”
OUTRAGEOUS!
However, the opinion that the confederate battle flag flies above the South Carolina state capital building is supported by many politicians and white southerners. They feel the flag is a source of great pride, history and tradition in the states and should remain as a reminder.
The reminder of this flag to the black community is one of lynchings, murder, institutional racism, raping, and flat out hundreds of years of oppression. It is something that cannot continue to fly if the country ever wants these wounds of racial injustice to be properly healed in this country.
Not to mention, the flag represents a TREASONOUS group who attacked and attempted to overthrow the United States of America.
Could you imagine a group of black people getting together, forming an army and attacking America under a Red, Black & Green flag? Do you realize what would happen to these people? And there is no way in hell the flag would be allow to fly over a city because it represents history.
This flag and all members of the army would be seen as traitors to the country.
Why is it different when a racist confederate battle flag?
