Edward Crawford gain instant fame during the Ferguson riots when a photo of him throwing a smoking tear gas canister back toward police was posted to social media. Crawford was just found dead last night from what police believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His mother and father, Edward S. Crawford Sr. identified his body this morning.

The medical examiner’s office said the death of Edward S. Crawford Jr. was reported as a suicide at 11:46 p.m. Thursday. However, the official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.

According to police reports, he was not alone when shot himself. Crawford was in the back seat of a car that was also occupied by two women.

The women told police Crawford began talking about problems he was facing in life. They heard him rummaging around in the backseat for something before he shot himself in the head.

“He was wonderful, great, always in a good mood,” Crawford’s father said. “He just got a new apartment and was training for a new job.”

“I don’t believe it was a suicide,” the father said. He also said investigators were being tight-lipped about his son’s death. “They’re being hush-hush,” he said.

His family is patiently waiting for the autopsy report, suicide just seems unfathomable and not just to the family.
