Unbelievable! Can’t believe I am reporting on another crazy murder of a black man in America, but unfortunately, this is something we are getting use to these days. What is worse is this time another police officer behind the trigger.
This happened Saturday in North Carolina in the wee hours of the morning. The police officer, Randall Kerrick, 27 years old, was charged with voluntary manslaughter, but if you ask me the explanation and case sounds a bit fishy. The victim, a young black man, had just survived a pretty bad car crash in Charlotte, NC, and was looking for help.
Police Officer Charged in Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Black Man Who Had Just Survived Car Accident
The victim, Jonathan Ferrell, a 24-year-old former Florida A&M University football player, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene early Saturday morning.
The 27-year-old officer, Randall Kerrick, turned himself into police late Saturday. He was released on a $50,000 bond.“The shooting of Mr. Ferrell was excessive,” the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement. “Our investigation has shown that Officer Kerrick did not have a lawful right to discharge his weapon during this encounter.”
According to police, Ferrell crashed his vehicle into the woods, climbed out of his car and walked a half-mile to the nearest house. He began “banging on the door viciously,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Chief Rodney Monroe said.
“It was quite possible he was seeking assistance based on his accident,” Monroe said.
This is where the case takes a real turn for the worse as the woman answered the door and assumed Ferrell was burglar. I guess burglars knock on the door in the middle of the night before they come into your home to rob you. The woman called the police and things just went downhill from there.
But the woman who answered the door thought Ferrell was a burglar and called police shortly after 2:30 a.m. to report an attempted break-in.
Kerrick and two other responding officers surrounded Ferrell, who “immediately charged” at the police, Monroe said. One officer tried unsuccessfully to subdue Ferrell with a taser. Kerrick then fired his weapon “several times.”“He immediately charged toward the three officers, one in particular,” Monroe said. “That officer in particular fired his weapon several times, striking the individual multiple times.”
I told you this is where the story gets fishy. I can’t understand why he would charge the officers and be so “violent” after just being in a car accident unless he was being provoked and the officers didn’t handle the situation properly. And why do you shoot someone fatally that isn’t armed? Whatever happened to wounding the person, shooting them in the legs? They are trained with their firearm by the police academy, right?
Not sure how you feel about this one, but I would love to hear your observations and opinions. It seems to be open season on young black men in this country, so if you fit the description, you better be careful.
