Pharrell Williams’ Philanthropic Housing Development Could Seriously Help Detroit’s Growing Underclass

Pharrell Williams has a new project in the works and it’s far from the music industry. Pharrell has had discussion with Alexander Gorlin, a Detroit housing developer, about working together on a housing development plan. Looks like Pharrell may receive a Master’s in philanthropy because he wants to give back in a big way.

This project is still in the beginning stages. Williams and Gorlin must secure the land and proper paperwork to move forward with the housing development. Although nothing is set in stone, it is rumored that they will place pre-built homes on city owned land. The homes will be partially built in factories then placed on lots.

Poverty has been on the rise for the last 15 years in Detroit, especially among minorities. According to the Detroit Free Press the poverty rate has more than tripled over the last few years. We know the need is there. Let’s hope that Williams is successful in his endeavors to improve the Detroit community.

Keep up to date with everything going on in the Urban Intellectuals Universe.
