“God works in mysterious ways”. This is what the Fayetteville church has proven on New Year’s eve during the Watch Night service. The Fayetteville church was holding their fellowship service when a man, approximately in his 20s, entered the building with a semi-automatic assault rifle in one hand and a loaded ammunition clip on the other hand. He entered calmly with the rifle pointing upward in the air.

Fayetteville church’s pastor, City Councilman Larry Wright, was on the middle of the preaching when the young man with the rifle entered. As if a coincidence, the preaching was about the violence happening in different parts of the world.

Pastor GunmanWhen Wright became aware of the presence of the young man, he immediately went down from the pulpit. While he moves close the man, the young man continued moving forward to the front area of the church. When he neared the front of the sanctuary, Wright met him there.

Pastor Wright is a retired military soldier who is ready to do what it takes to protect the church members. According to the pastor, he was ready to tackle the young man should he be belligerent. However, it appears that the young man was calm. So the pastor asked if he needs any help. The pastor asked the man to hand in the weapon and patted him.

He also asked four strong deacons to embrace the man to make him that he is not despised but instead welcomed.

Pastor Wright took the moment to pray for the man, who in turn, knelt down and cried while praying. The night service was resumed with the young man, disarmed, sitting on the front pew. After the sermon, the man inquired about salvation and offered His life to Christ.

What happened is a great reminder to all that it is never too late to change.
