The Oscars has been a huge let down for the last two years. Snubbing black actors and film directors for amazing movies such as Selma and Straight Outta Compton just to name a few. Many black people chose to boycott the Oscars for obvious reasons.
Well the nominations for the 89th edition of this estimable award ceremony, to be held next month are just out. Critics had their eyes set on this year nominations to see regular inclination of Academy towards the White actors but the Oscar’s diversity in nominations has improved after last year. A record breaking number of black actors were nominated for awards this year. It was no surprise for any one when Denzel Washington was nominated for Fences, he never disappoints. He just extended his record as the most nominated black actor.
A newcomer Ruth Negga surprised the world with her nomination in the category of Best Actress for the film “Loving.” List of nominations also includes Mahersshala Ali, Viola Davis, Naomi Harris, Octavia Spencer and Dev Patel. Right when Hollywood was being hit with issues of gender and race inequality they decided to vindicate themselves. We hope they make a habit of giving credit when credit is due because it’ll take more than one year of trying to pacify the black community.
