When you think your life is tough and the deck is stacked against you, think about 15 year old orphan, Davion Navar Henry.
He has spent his entire life in the foster care system, from birth to today. Can you imagine something like this? I know I can’t, but this amazing young man hasn’t given up and says he knows God has something more planned for him. This realization led him to get the courage to approach a church congregation and ask someone in the audience to allow him to join their family.
Davion Navar Henry Only nervously stood before worshippers at Florida’s St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and said: ‘My name is Davion and I’ve been in foster care since I was born… I know God hasn’t given up on me.

‘I’ll take anyone. Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple. I don’t care. And I would be really appreciative. The best I could be.’
On his ideal family, the teenager says he doesn’t care if the people are rich or poor or what ethnic background they are from. He would like a family ‘who are nice, fun and that know how to cook!’
The 15-year-old also gives a short description of what he is like for any family out there.
Davion writes that he is: ‘Nice and fun and would be happy to be adopted! Davion says the nicest thing he has ever done is a save a boy from drowning.‘
Recently, the young man decided he wanted to find out who his birth mother is, so he set out on that adventure. Using his birth certificate as a guide, he was able to discover a mug shot of her.
She was arrested for petty theft and cocaine possession. Then, he found her obituary.
La-Dwina Ilene ‘Big Dust’ McCloud had died aged 55 in Clearwater, Florida just weeks before. Heartbreaking. Just when he thought there might be a light at the end of his dark tunnel, it vanished. However, with no ties to the parental trees he came from, Davion hasn’t given up.
As you can imagine, he has had some behavior and anger issues. Any abandoned, unappreciated child would in this situation, so that is understandable, but he feels he has come to grips with his mothers death, his situation, and ready to start putting his best foot forward.
Living the past few years at Carlton Manor, a residential group home in Eckerd, Florida, with 12 other teenage boys can be a challenge, but Davion is making the best of it. He manages to get all A’s in school and is proving his past bad behavior is behind him.
His efforts at the church wasn’t successful in the way of obtaining an adopted family, but he is hopeful. And with the help of his case worker and mentor, 22 year old Richard Prince (props to this young man), he is confident there is a better life for him in the near future.
There has been some inquiry about Davion from foster parents since his plea, but he is still living in the group home.
