You would think if someone shot a police officer, they would either be dead or arrested. However, neither of these options happened to 29 year old Dallas Horton after shooting a police chief four times.

The incident happened in the Horton’s home in Oklahoma. Police were summoned to the home after “Washita County 911 received two calls from a man who identified himself as Dallas Horton, and claimed to have a bomb inside of a preschool,” according to a press release from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The press release continued, “Facts surrounding the case lead agents to believe the man was unaware it was officers who made entry.”

Louis Ross is the black Sentinel, Oklahoma police chief that was shot four times. He cast a different light on the case claiming he doubts Horton didn’t know there were police officers in the home. He said,  “screaming from five officers of the law announcing our presence, requesting to see hands.”

Ross entered the home after the other officers, but was the one that caught the bullets from Horton’s gun.

Ross survived being shot 3 times in the chest and once in the arm because of his bulletproof vest. He is said to have massive bruising on his chest as a result of the gun shots and the bullet to the arm went straight through.

Ross is lucky to be alive, but why is Horton? At a time when police are killing unarmed, black people, how does one shoot a police officer, live and not be charged or arrested? 

Horton was not charged or arrested and was released from police custody.

The investigation is open and ongoing. Horton is said to be fully cooperating with authorities in the matter.

Sam Dlugonski, the mayor of Sentinel, has known Horton his whole life. He described Horton as a “gun enthusiast” and survivalist.

Multiple news outlets are reporting racist commentary posted on Horton’s facebook page.
