The 2014 Miss America Pageant concluded last night in Atlantic City. The program went off without a hitch, but the issues started once the winner was selected. The racist, bigotry of some Americans was on full display. It is sickening and serves as another reminder the deep seeded hate embed in many. Time may have passed since we have seen the white sheets, but the mentality still lingers.
After a night of big numbers, long evening gowns, tight swimsuit strutting, dancing, singing and, yes, answering those tough judges’ questions (including ones about Miley Cyrus and Syria!), the 53 Miss America contestants (50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) were narrowed down to one winner.
Miss New York Nina Davuluri, 24, from Syracuse, sashayed off with the tiara and the $50,000 scholarship cash. She performed a Bollywood fusion dance (after missing her cue at first) and answered a question about plastic surgery. (“Be confident in who you are!”) She said she hopes to become a doctor, like her father, who is an obstetrician. She once battled bulimia, according to a Syracuse.com July story, and is the first Indian-American to serve as Miss New York. She is the first Miss America winner of Indian descent.
The hail storm of racist comments spewed mostly from Twitter, but i’m sure you can find much more around the internet on other social media outlets. Social media is a dangerous place for most because they don’t have any self control. People use Facebook and Twitter as an endless stream of their mental ramblings.
Apparently, some of these ramblings include very crude racist mentality. Here are a few below.
What were some of the comments made?
I am literately soo mad right now a ARAB won #MissAmerica
How the f*ck does a foreigner win Miss America? She is a Arab! #idiots
Miss America? You mean Miss 7-11.
Sand n*gger is up #missamerica
The comments go on and on. I will allow you the decision to subject yourself to more if you like. Many of these tweets can be seen here along with the name and Twitter account of those making these comments, the source of these quotes above.

Some say bringing up these sorts of happenings around the country only fans the flames. I disagree. People must be informed of the world around them. If this mentality wasn’t prevalent and active in this country, then there would be no need to report the findings. The initial offensive actions, shooting of unarmed black men, the violence, intimidation, fabricated evidence and racist mentality that is fanning the flames.
I was always reminded to be aware and be prepared.
