Don’t you just love people who love, honor and cherish their mother? We definitely do here at Urban intellectuals and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is one of those people.
Rondae is an NBA rookie with the Brooklyn Nets. The 23rd pick in the NBA draft is very excited to sign his new rookie contract to the tune of $6.64 million dollars if he earns the entire four year offer. The first two are guaranteed with him earning $1.33 million dollars this season.
However, the first thing on Rondale’s mind isn’t buying a flashy car or big house for himself, but to surprise his mother with her very own home. It would be the first home his mother would ever have, so he is very excited about the opportunity to do this for her.
It was mom’s birthday when Rondale, his brother and a few friends packed inside the home to surprise his mother who had no idea about the gift or the birthday party. She rang the doorbell, everyone yelled surprise and she began crying with joy.
She said it was her best birthday ever. That’s huge for me and my brother, and my uncle, who is like a brother to us. … That’s big in our eyes, to be able to do that. Being able to change your mom’s life, to be able to put her in a comfortable situation. … It makes that feeling in your heart go to ease.
Instead of worrying about where your mom is going, what she’s doing, it puts you at ease knowing she has a place of her own, and that she has somewhere to lay her head at night. It’s pretty special.
Most young men would have scampered off to purchase a dream house for themselves, but not this young man. He took a look at the expensive Manhattan and Brooklyn real estate market and decided to pocket his earnings for something more reasonable.
In fact, he opted to rent a reasonable apartment in Northern New Jersey with friend and his brother, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson who is in the NBA D-League for now.
However, his mother is set with the home of her dreams…..HER HOME!
